Introducing, another new series! I wanted to be able to share different facts and a few of my favorite things in a more lighthearted way and so decided to start Friday Five. Each week, I will share some fun information in each of these five categories: medical facts, study tips, great study snacks I’ve been loving, my favorite social media accounts, and some Disney trivia. Yes, the last one is a little random, but if you don’t already know this about me, I am a complete Disney nerd! So, I had to be able to share my extensive and sometimes useless knowledge of Disney facts. Be sure to stay tuned each week!
1. The Practice of Medicine
Case: 8 year old male presents to the clinic with three day history of bilateral lower extremity pain and palpable bruises that seem to be spreading.
-What are you thinking? Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP)
-Questions to ask? Recent URI, GI symptoms (nausea/vomiting, bloody stools)?
-Most concerned about? Renal involvement leading to acute renal failure
-Treatment? Supportive, NSAIDs for pain (used carefully in cases with GI and renal involvement), steroids can help slow disease progression; Typically self-limiting and parents need reassurance that this will resolve on its own.
Do some research on your own about HSP. Especially look up some pictures. The palpable purpura can be pretty impressive!
2. Study Time…all the time
Colored pens are my weakness! I have tried so many different types, from felt tip to ballpoint, fine to thick, and have finally found the perfect ones. It’s the Papermate InkJoy Gel Pens! These pens are super smooth, no smear, gel tip pens that come in so many different colors even I haven’t found a use for all of them yet. I have both the 0.7mm and the 0.5mm versions but think I prefer the 0.7mm for everyday notetaking. The packs also come in a variety of sizes so you don’t have to get all the colors if you don’t want, although I’m not sure why you wouldn’t. 😉
3. Snacks? Do you have to ask?
I am always on the look out for healthier snack options because studying always seems to give me the munchies. I have been loving these Veggie Straws. They are the perfect salty, crunchy bite to curb those study hunger pangs.
4. Get Social!
With interview season coming up, I have been looking to update my professional wardrobe. I love Franziska of Franish the Blog‘s style posts, especially this one about finding a new suit. I have been slowly working on getting some new pieces but am still looking for a few things and am definitely going to check out her recommendations for shoes and handbags.
5. “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” -Walt Disney
How much was the price of admission to Magic Kingdom when it opened in 1971?
$3.50, but certain rides did require an additional fee. Today, a one-day ticket to Magic Kingdom will run you $105-$124 depending on the time of year. 😮
How did you like the first Friday Five? Do you have any suggestions of topics that could make some special appearances? Be sure to leave a comment below.
